Professor Emeritus Tekena N. Tamuno @ 80

SF, CFO and Prof. Tekena N. Tamuno (TNT)

Professor Emeritus Tekena N. Tamuno, Past Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (1975-1979), Professor Emeritus of History at the same Premier University, and President of the Board of Trustees of Bells University, Ota, turned 80 on Suturday 28th January 2012.

The young man TNT as I fondly call him, has touched me in many parts, but I will allude to just two aspects in this testimony.

Truly Nigerian, He is from Okrika, Rivers State, but married to a lovely Ijesha woman (Mrs O.G. Tamuno retired as Librarian from the University of Ibadan). He is a distinguished scholar who has written several books and publications. In my tribute to Ojukwu, I touched on his views regarding the Igbos and the Nigerian project.

At the Chapel of the Resurrection where we (SF, CFO & Children)  worship, TNT, our pride is always dishing out his trademark smile and handshake to the admiration of the young and old.

Come Saturday 4th February 2012, his birthday will be celebrated with the presentation of books written in his honor at the Trenchard Hall of the University of Ibadan, at 11:00am.

Here is wishing this unassuming father and laborer in the past, still an active and hardworking builder of a modern Nigeria – a Happy Birthday, long life and prosperity!
